The Sony eReader is pretty nice - the screen is terrific - but the lack of decent, iTunes style software support rendered it a bit hacky I thought. That's why I'm so interested in the Kindle - the idea of the machine simply being this front end to an unlimited library is a pretty sexy one...

Hmm, worrying development. Just checked that Google books for mobiles, and it doesn't display on my BlackBerry browser. Does the event of Android suggest Google are now concentrating on it, and not a more open approach? Thankfully it works in Opera Mini, but I do hope it's not a precedent.

I actually did have a read through that article (thanks delicious network!) and it was a good read. I agree that it was a little too up on the potential of the iPod. I use mobipocket on my blackberry, infact used it since I had a Palm, and it works ok, but as the article says it still doesn't feel quite right and I've yet to find the happy device for my reading. I got a close up look at the Sony product at the Grand Designs show last year, and that does look like a fantastic product, however it suffers from the fact I would be unlikely to carry it around with me. Good for at home reading or holiday reading, but in those situations it's perfectly acceptable to have some physical books. It might require some kind of dual screen phone device, that can work in LCD or e-ink mode. By which I meat two screens layered on top of each other to not take up more actual space, but I've not a clue how complex such a design would be.
